Captain Ever's Substation
Interactive Installation, Projection

A ship's wheel sits in front of a large porthole window, filled with an animated scene of underwater mountains in subterranean low light. A rumble sounds in the distance. Spinning the wheel turns the landscape, revealing entrenched habitats, submarines, lantern boats, minerals and creatures intertwined. Everything moves in an unhurried manner, shimmering and flickering, trailing in the current. A farrago of characters, representing confidence, mischievousness, silence, fear, concentration. Messengers and rogues.

Ice Floes
Physical Installation, Projection

An underwater lava explosion shatters an ice sheet into a field of smaller ice floes. The heat from the eruption reanimates dormant microbes that propagate quickly in their newly warmed habitat. A few spark up randomly, ramping up to an all out struggle for life. An obscured battle that happens below the surface, suggesting new life after the cataclysmic event.

Shards of broken sea ice hang a few feet above the viewer, dangling from string secured 40 ft up. The ice floes jut out from the wall of a dark, cavernous interior space, forming a gently moving arc. The projection points downward and is obscured by the ice floes. The point source of the projection becomes the obscured sun. The visual content is a generative animation of multiple factions at war. "Whatever is not me, I consume." Consume or be consumed. This is a struggle for turf, for life; the underlying level in a world of three dimensions: ocean floor, ocean surface and sky.
